Obituaries : Alvin “Tuffy” Howard Kite

Alvin "Tuffy" Howard Kite, 63, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 30, 2024, at UI Health Care Medical Center, Iowa City. A Celebration of Life will be 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, December 14. 2024, at Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home, Vinton

Alvin was born September 21, 1961 in Atlantic, IA, the son of Dale and Joanne (Kiesel) Kite. He attended school in Harlan until 8th grade, when his father passed away unexpectedly. At that time, he started working full time to help his family. Alvin's employment included snow blowing, Sta-Bilt Construction, Western Engineering, Curt Scheffler Trucking, LL Pelling, Kim's Ready Mix, and AG Asphalt. On July 3, 1993, Alvin was united in marriage to Shannon Umbarger in Van Horne.

In his leisure time, Alvin enjoyed wood working, painting, fishing, watching his favorite TV shows, a shot of Fireball, and spending time with his family. Alvin always put a creativefinish on everything he touched.

Left to cherish Alvin's memory are his wife of 31 years, Shannon of Vinton; sons: Dale (Chrystal) Kite of Van Horne, Thomas (Desteny) Kite of Cedar Rapids, and Cole (Lauren) Kite of Vinton; sister, Deb Buck of Harlan; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alan Kite; and grandson, William Kite.

A memorial fund has been established.
