LaVonne Marie Solberg, 87, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024, in Marion, Iowa. She was born on January 13, 1937, to Frank C. and Pearl (Smith) LaTour.
LaVonne graduated from Rowley High School in 1954 and married the love of her life, David Lloyd Solberg, on July 18 of that same year in Rowley. Together, they built a life filled with love and family.
Throughout her life, LaVonne held various roles that showcased her dedication and talents. She worked as a secretary for school board administration in Independence during the 1970's and later pursued accounting and secretarial work. She also co-owned D&L Ceramics and operated a bed-and-breakfast in Independence, Iowa. Her entrepreneurial spirit and hard work left a lasting impression on those around her.
LaVonne had a deep love for gardening, baking, canning, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She especially cherished making holiday candies with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren-a tradition that brought joy to her family.
LaVonne was a woman of unwavering faith who found strength and solace in her relationship with the Lord throughout her life. Her steadfast devotion served as a guiding light through many challenges and losses, serving as an inspiration to those who knew her.
Over the years LaVonne resided in several communities including Rowley, Robins, Independence, Urbana, Vinton, and Rockwall, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David; four children: Rodney, Brett and Curtis Solberg, and Carmen Sherman; one grandchild, Jacob Solberg; her parents; and her siblings Celesta Allen and Donald LaTour.
She is survived by six grandchildren: Brigett (Travis) Burau of Rockwall, Texas; Ben Solberg of Shellsburg, Iowa; April (Bob) Jorgensen of Lincoln, Nebraska; Erica Sherman of Des Moines, Iowa; Kalyn Solberg of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Amanda (Jer) Garman of Hiawatha, Iowa. She also leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law: Wilda Solberg of Shellsburg, Iowa, and Mary (Chip) Allen of Marion, Iowa; and a son-in-law: Keith (Stacey) Sherman of Des Moines, Iowa.
LaVonne's resilience and deep spirituality left a lasting impression on her family and friends. She will be remembered as a pillar of strength and faith, whose legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December, 17, 2024, at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M. with Carla Hepker officiating. Interment will be held at the Rowley Cemetery.
