Kurtis Dean Kalina, 67, of Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 20, 2025. A Visitation will be held Monday, January 27, 2025, from 9-11 AM. at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Kurtis was born on November 16, 1957, the son of Sylvester Paul and Joanne Marie (Weber) Kalina. He graduated from LaSalle High School and became a journeyman carpenter. For over 30 years he worked in Maintenance as a Jack of all Trades and master of many. Throughout his adult life, Kurt enjoyed many pastimes, including playing his guitar, biking, playing card games, music, cultivating fruit trees, reading the Bible, and playing with his kids and grandkids. He always found value in things others discarded and excelled at fixing and repurposing them. Kurt fought valiantly against both his mental and physical decline in his final years. His family will remember his dedication to championing the faith and his love for each and every one of them.

Survivors include: His wife, Janie Kalina, and 10 Children: Lydia (Doug) Molitor, Joanna (Adolfo) Murillo, Joe (Jade) Kalina, David (Courtney) Kalina, Stephen (Whitney) Kalina, Paula (Sam) Sauer, Lucas (Kirsten) Kalina, Nicole (Donnie) Wetterling, Rebekah (DeLoss) Rappleye, and Philip Kalina. His grandchildren include: Charlie, Clara, & Chloe Molitor, Shoney & Skye Murillo, Landon & Lily Kalina, Finley Kalina, Dean Kalina, and Makaiah Kalina. His siblings include: Steve (Alison) Kalina, Lisa (Doug) Hill, Holli (John) Short, and Heidi (Ed) Short.

Preceding him in death are his father Sylvester and his mother Joanne.
