Gordon E. Floyd, 65, passed away peacefully after a courageous 11-month battle with glioblastoma on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at St. Lukes Hospital with his wife by his side.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 1st at Blessed Hope Community Church. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time on Saturday, also at the church. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Gordon was born July 23, 1959, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton, the son of Curtis and Beverly (Rogers) Floyd. His parents divorced when he was young, and he was lovingly raised by his stepfather Gerald 'Dean' Kenney.

On November 3rd, 1984, Gordon was united in marriage to the love of his life, Teresa Evans at his parents' home in rural Garrison.

Gordon was employed for 24 years in the exterior masonry business. He was a talented tuck pointer working for Karr Tuckpointing, Technical Specialty Systems and Schoonover Tuckpointing. In 1993 he and his brother Jerry restored his parents' brick home, believed to be one of the oldest homes in Vinton. Gordon decided in 2003 that he wanted to get off the road and be home with his family. He was employed at Vinton-Shellsburg Schools as a custodian and worked for the maintenance department retiring in 2021.

Gordon worked hard, whether for his employer or at home. He loved to be outside, kept a beautiful yard and enjoyed his morning bicycle rides. He loved music and could be found listening to it too loudly in his garage. He loved his family, and was a caregiver at heart, seeing to his mother and taking care of Teresa's uncle Ralph's acreage. He was a member of Blessed Hope Community Church and leaned deeply on God's promises.

Gordon is survived, so loved, and will be terribly missed by his mother Beverly Kenney, his wife of 40 years, Teresa and their children, son Patrick Floyd, daughter Samantha Floyd and son Joe (Jessie) Schooley from a previous relationship. Brothers Jerry Kenney and John Kenney. Two grandchildren, Kalla Schooley and Matthew Schooley, uncles and aunts Dick and Joyce Kenney and Darrell and Janet Kenney and Mary Lee Usher, Teresa's siblings Lorry Evans, Danny (Sandy) Evans, Karen (Bret) Smith, David (Andrea) Evans. Six cousins and their families, seventeen nieces and nephews and their families and beloved family dog Scruffy. Many friends and countless co-workers who thought so much of him.

Gordon is preceded in death by his father Curtis Floyd, stepfather Dean Kenney, brother Steven Floyd, sister Barbara Yerkes, grandparents Lyle Sr. and Gertrude Rogers, Uncle Jack Ross, Aunt Phyllis Ross, Uncle Lyle "Billy" Rogers, great nephew Lane Alan Smith, best friend Billy Fuehrer, and family pets Trixie, Sheena and Sparky.

If you can attend Gordon's service or visitation you are encouraged to dress casually.

A memorial fund has been established.
