He was married to the love of his life, Shirley Gluesing from Newhall Iowa for 69 years.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 pm on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton. The funeral service will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Garrison at 10:30 AM on Monday February 3, 2025, with Tim Bickel officiating. Interment will be held at the Garrison Cemetery with graveside military rites. A memorial fund has been established
Eldo was a very committed man who was devoted first and foremost to God and his church. He devoted his life to his wife and his family and his fellow man in whatever way he could. He was well known for his gleeful outlook and always giving people a hard time. He was a farmer and woodworker who was happy in his later years to see his family take over the farm and to help them in any way he could. His whole life was farming; that is all he wanted to do. He was proud of his service in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Jackson Better Farmers 4-H Club as a youth and later served as leader for the club and as President of Benton County 4-H. He served as President, Treasurer, Elder and Trustee of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Garrison; as a Board Member and Chairman Benton County REC and as a board member of CIPCO (Central Iowa Power Cooperative). He also served on the Board of Directors for the Benton Mutual Insurance Association, Benton County Cattleman's Association, and the Garrison Cemetery.
Eldo's hobbies were: golfing, reading, dancing, and adventures with grandkids. He spent his final years at Windsor Manor in Vinton and his final days at the Vinton Lutheran Home. He was appreciative of the care that the staff at both facilities provided him.
Eldo and Shirley have two children, Steve (Teresa) Meyer from Garrison and Connie (Randy) Mortvedt from Ames. They had four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Eldo is survived by his wife, his children, his brother Bob from Des Moines; grandchildren Amy (Matt) Cline, Emily (Rob) Hanson, Christen Meyer and Rachel (Evan) Mortvedt; and great-grandchildren Adah, Knox, Jael, Lena, Sandy, Gwen, Tate and Elliot.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Richard Meyer from Vinton and his sister Ruth Block from California.
