MacKenzie Jane Deahl, 25, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the UI Health Care Medical Center, Iowa City, following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Oak Grove Church, Shellsburg, with Pastor Matt Magee officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 14, at the church, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is caring for MacKenzie and her family.
MacKenzie was born September 21, 1999, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Charles and Tina (Izzo) Deahl. She attended Benton Community school, graduating in 2018. While in high school, MacKenzie participated in 4H, choir, was manager of the football team and was a member of the golf team. Following graduation, she attended Kirkwood Community College where she earned a degree in liberal arts. For eight years, MacKenzie was employed by Roy's Home Town Grocery in Shellsburgwhere she brought a smile to the face of many customers.
In her leisure time, MacKenzie enjoyed watching wrestling, (especially the Hawkeye's and attending many NCAA tournaments with her dad), reading and re-reading books, making creations with LEGO sets, any time spent with animals, taking walks with Cole, and traveling the United States with her dad.
Left to cherish MacKenzie's memory are her parents, Charles and Tina; special friend, Cole Travis; aunts: Connie (Herb) Deahl-Smith, and Linda Deahl-Jones (Mike); uncle, James Izzo; five first cousins: Darald, Levi, Molly, CJ, and Travis; and several other family members.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, George Ed Deahl and Mary Jane Deahl Gearhart; maternal grandparents,John & Jeanne Izzo; aunt, Margaret Deahl; and cousin, Ryan Walters.
A memorial fund has been established.
