Gerald Selken, 82, passed away peacefully Friday, February 14, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 21, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Garrison, with Tim Bickel officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 20, at Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home, Vinton, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be in the Garrison Cemetery.

Gerald was born August 31, 1942 in Vinton, the son of Emil and Edna (Stein) Selken. He attended school in Keystone, graduating in 1960. On June 11, 1966, Gerald was united in marriage to Margaret Von Muenster at St. John's Evangelical Church in Clarence. Gerald spent his lifetime devoted to farming. He retired from crop farming in 2022, but continued to "garden farm" until his passing. He also drove school bus for Benton Community High School for 28 years.

Enjoyable past times for Gerald were farming, gardening, bowling, men's slo-pitch softball, playing cards, hunting, and watching his kids and grandkids sporting events. (Just don't ask him to attend a band or choir concert!)

Left to cherish Gerald's memory are his wife of 58 years, Margie of Dysart; daughters: Cindy (Tom) Wagoner of Colona, IL, and Angela (Rick) Becker of Vinton; son, Wayne Selken of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren: Andrea Wagoner (Joe Miller) of Colorado Springs, CO, Anna Becker (Andy Sebesta) of Vinton, and Jakob Becker of Vinton; sister, Colleen (Bob) Schulte, Delhi; sister-in-law, Dorothy Selken of Vinton; and several other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers: Verdean, Verlyn, and Harlan.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mark Lutheran Church, Garrison, or Camp Courageous.
