Surrounded by her loving family, Katie Kay Walters, 53, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025, at the Keystone Nursing Care Center, Keystone, following a lengthy illness. Per Katie's wishes, no services will be held. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Katie's family.

Katie was born October 20, 1971, in Muscatine, the daughter of Harold and Dorothy (Beason) Axtell. She was a graduate of Jefferson High School, Cedar Rapids. On June 13, 2020, Katie was united in marriage to Kurt Walters in Blairstown. Katie was employed as a sales representative for Rud Chain, Hiawatha, and then as operations manager for Wesco, Cedar Rapids.

Whether she was riding motorcycles, traveling, admiring her beloved frogs, or spending time with family, Katie loved her simple life. She was also a proud volunteer for Pink Heals Eastern Iowa.

Katie is survived by her husband, Kurt; daughter, Nichole (John) Pieper; sons: Dustin Elsbury and Elijah Walters; grandchildren; Amari and Brooklynn Pieper; parents: Harold (Madge) Axtell and Dorothy (Randy) Roach; sister, Tammy (Dave) Warth; and several other family members.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Ky Axtell; paternal and maternal grandparents; and several other family members.

A memorial fund has been established.
