Ron Elwick was called to his Savior Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the Vinton Lutheran Home. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Vinton, with Rev. Stephen Preus officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 24, at the church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Ron and his family.

Ron was born August 3, 1935, to Cyrus and Kethyn Elwick on a farm outside Vinton. He graduated from Lincoln High School, then served his country in the Iowa National Guard. Ron was united in marriage to Judy Matters in 1960, and was a faithful husband for sixty years, until Judy's death in 2020.

Ron started Elwick Electric in 1961 and enjoyed the countless friends he made on the job, often wowing them as a human volt meter. In later years, he enjoyed serving on the board of the Lutheran Home, and spent many years on the Vinton City Council. If he wasn't working, you might find him in the timber mushrooming or working on a Ford tractor. Always proud of his Norwegian heritage, he spent many weekends with Judy seeking out lutefisk dinners, and traveled to the family farm in Norway in 2004. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Vinton.

Ron's siblings were a special blessing to him. Through early hardship, they forged a bond that lasted their lifetimes. Ron always had a ready ear to listen, and knew the value of being succinct. He was a very devoted father, and spent a lifetime trying to instill wisdom in his sons.

He is survived by his three sons: Mark (Melissa), Andrew (Carol), and Mikel-jon (Lana); grandchildren: Drew, Abigail, Maggie, Cable, and Lars; brother, Keith; and sisters: Ruth Reed and Nancy (Dennis) Lausar.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judy; sister and brother-in-law, Doris (Chan) Cook; brother-in-law, Tom Reed; and sister-in-law, Janet Elwick.

Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Vinton Lutheran Home, or to the family to be shared with organizations dear to Ron's heart.

Ron's family would like to express a special thank you to the Lutheran Home staff, including Pastor Stephenson, Pastor Stephen Preus, and Dr. Brian Meeker for their dedicated care and compassion for Ron.
