Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 4, 2025, at the Vinton Baptist Church, with Chaplain John Karrick officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., at the church, on Friday. Burial with full military rites will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Vinton. Larry was born on September 15, 1941, in rural Vinton, the son of Wallace and Kathryn (Jewel) Driscol. He attended school in Vinton, graduating from Washington High School in 1959. While in high school, Larry was employed by Vinton Farmer's Feed.
Following graduation, he entered the United States Army where he proudly served from 1959 to 1960, and then was a member of the reserves until 1965.
On October 27, 1962, Larry was united in marriage to Sandra Lee Laton at the First Baptist Church, Vinton. He was employed as a tool grinder for John Deere for 35 years.
Whether he was trout fishing, making jigs for fly fishing, camping, bowhunting, completing jigsaw puzzles, making family jewelry out of vintage silverware, watching TV, cooking, grilling, or cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes where he was a football season ticket holder, Larry embraced life with enthusiasm and creativity.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Vinton, and the Vinton American Legion, where he enjoyed helping with fish fries, placing flags in the cemetery on Memorial Day, and participating in military rites for fellow veterans.
Larry is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sandy of Vinton; daughters: Deborah (Brian) Corlew of Colona, IL, and Kimberly (Chad) Riffey of Vinton; grandchildren: James Corlew, Peggy (Ryan) DeRudder, Amanda (Jason) Alex, and Lincoln Riffey; and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rebecca Walker; grandson, Chance Walker; and sister and brother-in-law, Patricia (David) Anthony.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Vinton American Legion.
