Donald Eugene Mayhew, 93, passed away Friday, April 11, 2025, at his home in Vinton.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 9:30 until 10:45 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, also at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton with Rev. Stephen Preus officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton with graveside Military Rites. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Donald was born on October 7, 1931, on a farm near Garrison, to Everitt and Leona (Mussman) Mayhew. He was raised on the family farm near Mount Auburn and graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton in 1950. Donald served his Country in the United States Army from 1952 until 1954, attaining the rank of Corporal. On February 19, 1966, he was united in marriage to Joann Strong at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton. Donald and Joann farmed in the Mount Auburn area, until retiring and moving to Vinton.

They were active members at Trinity, and enjoyed playing golf, square dancing, playing cards, trips with friends and gardening. Donald was a member of the Mount Auburn Legion.

He is survived by his wife Joann; children, Teri Karlzen of Vinton, Steve (Peg) Cronk of Vinton, Shawna (Todd) Parks of Independence, MO; 8 grandchildren, Justin, Travis, Erica, Nicole, Charley, Seth, Bryce, and Victoria; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Elaine (Roger) Brown of Bettendorf; brother, Marlyn Mayhew of Vinton; many nieces and nephews; and his special caregiver, Barb Ender-Wright.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Shirley Mayhew, and nephew, John Mayhew.
