Janie was born September 13, 1934, to Adam C. and Agnes (Brecht) Schulte on their farm near Norway, Iowa. She graduated from Norway High School Class of 1952. She was united in marriage to Edward James Gibney on May 17, 1955 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Norway. Janie worked in the office at Amana Refrigeration prior to starting a family. After raising 5 children and helping Ed on the farm for many years, she began working at the Grape Vine Winery in Amana, a job that she dearly loved.
Janie had a passion for music. She traveled the United States with her husband, family and friends, enjoying many trips to Branson, Missouri. She liked cooking and baking for her family, playing cards, trips to the casino and going down to Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri with her family.
Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren, attending their many sporting and music events. She was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, and Saint Michael's Catholic Church.
Janie is survived by daughters, Connie (Alan) Benson, Carla (Brad) Davidson and Carrie Gibney; daughter-in-law, Darlene Gibney; sister, Shirley (Ron) Walter; grandchildren, Alex Gibney, Kaylee (Bill) Monberg, Aaron (Molly) Voss, Amy (John) Palmer, Chelsea (Nathan) Raymond and Justin (Samantha) Zaugg, along with 11 great-grandchildren.
Janie was preceded in death by her parents; the love of her life, husband, Ed Gibney; son Kenneth Gibney; and daughter, Christine Zaugg.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Meadow View Memory Care and the Oldorf Hospice House for their kind and compassionate care.
