John Louis Selk, 43, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at home after a fast moving lung cancer diagnosis. A beloved son, brother, partner, and friend, John touched many lives with his warmth, humor, sincerity, and quiet strength.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 28, 2025, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM Saturday at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton.

Born on June 23, 1981, John was a lifelong Iowan who found great pride and purpose in his work. John started his career with Fareway after college, working in the Vinton and Hiawatha stores in the Meat Department before transitioning to the Bakery Manager in Cedar Rapids. At work, John was known for his dedication, kindness, and the joy he brought to both coworkers and customers alike.

John is survived by his loving partner, Scott Blanchard; his parents Lynn and Brenda Selk (Keystone); his brothers, David Selk (and wife Diane) Cedar Rapids and Jeff Selk (Keystone), his sister Carrie Driscoll (Fort Dodge), two nieces (Mira Selk and Ellie Driscoll) and two nephews (Henry Selk and Vincent Driscoll). John was preceded in death by his grandparents: Louie and Flossie (Rippel) Selk of Keystone, Iowa and Willis and Laveta (Lankford) Boman of Neosho, MO.

He will be remembered for his gentle heart, his deep love for family, and the care he showed to everyone around him.
