Marc David Mahood, 23, of La Porte City, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at his home on Friday, August 15, 2025, after a 3 ½ year hard fought battle with brain cancer. He was born on January 28, 2002, in Waterloo, the son of Marc K. Mahood and April McClain. Marc was a 2020 graduate of Union Community Schools in La Porte City, where he was active in football, soccer, and basketball.

Following graduation, Marc entered the U.S. Air Force, where he completed basic training and continued his military career as a Civil Engineer, a role he served in with distinction until he was medically discharged in September of 2023.

Marc was united in marriage to the love of his life, Laney Muñoz, on August 1, 2025, at his home in La Porte City.

He enjoyed hiking, snowboarding, golfing, and spending time with his friends and his cats.

He is survived by his wife, Laney Mahood of La Porte City; his parents, Marc (Traci) Mahood of La Porte City and April (Bart Knox) McClain of Henderson, NV; three sisters, Kelsey (Dustin) Dettbarn of Hiawatha, Noel (Quinton Taylor) Mahood of Janesville, and Maya Douglas of Cedar Falls; a great-grandmother, Helen McClain of Waterloo; grandparents, Ted and Linda Mahood and Leon and Pauline McClain all of La Porte City; his niece and nephews, Daxtin, Delilah and Daemon Dettbarn; and his favorite special fur baby companions, Ru, Zara, and Odi.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140Kimball Ave. Waterloo, Iowa, followed by a Celebration of Life Gathering from 2 - 5 p.m.Inurnment with military rites conducted by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard and the La Porte City American Legion U.S.S. San Diego Post #207 will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2025, in the West View Cemetery in La Porte City, Iowa.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
