Bill Allen Thiessen, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away August 28, 2025 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a short battle with cancer.
Bill was born December 4, 1941 to John and Myrtle (Signs) Thiessen in Lebanon, MO. He moved with his family to Van Horne, IA, graduating from Van Horne High School, the class of 1960. On June 5, 1965 Bill married Janette Ledger in Van Horne, IA. Together they raised their family in Belle Plaine, IA.
Bill earned his Draftsman’s certification from Kirkwood Community College. He worked several jobs over the years always providing for his family. Bill was most proud of owning and operating Thiessen Electric in Belle Plaine in the late 70's and 80's. In 1990, he took a job for the State of California as an electrician, retiring in 2002. Following his retirement, Bill and Janette moved to Cedar Rapids to be closer to their children.
Bill enjoyed woodworking and after retirement he became a great cook.
He was an example of what it meant to be dedicated. Bill was a man of faith and enjoyed studying the Bible. He cherished time with family, sharing stories about his life. He had a great sense of humor, bringing joy to those around him.
Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janette; sons, Doug (Sonya) Thiessen of Macomb, IL and Matt (Sara) Thiessen of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Bethany (Wyatt), Skylar and Zach; great-granddaughter, Paisley; brother, Bruce (Charla) Thiessen; sisters, Wanda Mauck, Margaret (George) Fetter, Freda (Steve) Hurlburt; sister-in-law, Arlene Ledger; along with several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law; Fred and Elva Ledger; three angel grandbabies; two brothers, Francis and Norman; two sisters, Emma and Martha; three brothers-in-law, Ronald, Charles and Richard; and a sister-in-law, Irene.
Funeral service is 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine, IA, with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service.
