Margaret Anne “Peg” Deklotz, 98, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, with her loving family by her side.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, September 14, at the St. Stephen’s Fellowship Hall in Atkins. Funeral services will be held at St. Stephen’s Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 15, 2025, with Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating. A luncheon will follow the service. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg.
Peg was born on November 7, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Garland and Helen (Cutter) Millburn. She attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Roosevelt in Cedar Rapids. She then attended Cedar Rapids Business College.
On April 24, 1943, she was united in marriage to Louis “Louie” Deklotz at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in San Francisco, CA. After Louie’s discharge from the service, they returned to Shellsburg where they farmed. They later moved to Cedar Rapids where Peg worked at Armstrong’s, Seifert’s, and Feiereisen’s. When Louie’s health deteriorated, Peg was his caregiver – never complaining and by his side when he passed. She then went on to work at Four Oaks until the age of 90 when she finally retired.
No one ever went to Peg’s home and went away hungry. She loved to cook and try out new recipes. She cooked as though she were feeding the farm crew – always way too much! It never went to waste though. She would send it home with family and friends. She enjoyed playing various card games, Bingo, and listening to Big Band music. She also loved her flower gardens and birds. In the fall, she enjoyed her stays in Mesa, AZ., where she became known and loved by many.
Peg was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Atkins, VFW Auxiliary Post 788 in Cedar Rapids, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 166, in Atkins.
Peg is survived by her children: Sharon Young of Henderson, NV, Gary (Rae) Deklotz of Cedar Rapids, Margie (Dennis) Lohrer of Shellsburg, Linda (Jim) Herzberger of Cedar Rapids, daughter-in-law Judy Deklotz of Shellsburg, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Louie, son, John Deklotz, son-in-law, Dennis Young, and granddaughter, Stephanie Herzberger.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Camp Courageous, or a charity of your choice.
The family would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to the 4th Floor Nursing Staff at Mercy Hospital and Mercy Hospice. Those who assisted our Mom the last few weeks of her life showed so much care, compassion, and love – it will never be forgotten.
