Surrounded by his loving family, Melvin L. Hupfeld, 93, of Vinton, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2025, at the Vinton Lutheran Home. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home, Vinton.  A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Melvin was born March 14, 1932, in rural Garrison, the son of John and Edna (Grimm) Hupfeld. He graduated from Dysart High School. Melvin married Cloris Wolken on December 15, 1957; she passed away in 2010. He later married Frances Fisher on April 13, 2013; she passed away in 2019.

Melvin proudly served in the United States Army and later farmed for most of his life. After farming, Melvin managed mobile home parks in Oklahoma and Minnesota and was employed at Manatt’s Cement Company for 15 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Dysart and Van Horne American Legions.

Melvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, coin collecting, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. He treasured time spent with his family and the many memories they shared.

Melvin is survived by his son, Michael (Linda) Hupfeld of Readlyn; daughter, Melody (Wes) Snobl of Vinton; daughter-in-law, Judy Hupfeld of Vinton; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Elaine Carlson of AZ; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Wolken of Marshalltown.

He was preceded in death by his son, John Hupfeld; sister and brother-in-law, Janice (David) Schirm; and brothers-in-law, Art Carlson and Stanley Wolken; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rose and Leon Borcherding. 

A memorial fund has been established.
