Maxine Mae Noller, 86, of Tipton and Vinton, passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side, on March 7th, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. A graveside service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at 11:00 AM, on Thursday, March 12th.
Maxine was born on June 28th, 1939, in Independence, Iowa, to Carl and Carlotta Butterfield. In 1957, she graduated high school from Englewood Highschool in Englewood, Colorado. That same year, her mother Carlotta introduced her to a young man named Wendell James Noller and three weeks later, they were engaged. They were joined in marriage on January 9th, 1958. They were married for 52 years before Wendell passed away from cancer in 2010. Their union was blessed with three children: Carla, Wendell James Jr., and Cathy. Maxine and Wendell spent most of their marriage in Garrison, Iowa, and Vinton, Iowa.
In 1979, Maxine graduated with honors from Kirkwood Community College with her Administrative Assistant degree and spent nearly 25 years working as a school secretary for both Woodrow Wilson School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Tilford School in Vinton, Iowa.
When they retired, Maxine and Wendell spent most of their time traveling around the United States, especially Colorado, in their Winnebago camper. Joining them on many camping adventures, misadventures, WIT Rallies, and winters in Texas, were their best buddies: Maxine's sister Barb and brother-in-law Charles.
Maxine was an accomplished pianist and accordion player and often shared her musical gifts with her church and local community. She was especially fond of the Rocky Mountains in the fall, bird watching, listening to anything played on the Grand Ole Opry stage, sewing, and gardening.
Maxine was especially proud and fond of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would often show up to their school events and celebrations, sewed them Halloween costumes, and took them camping and traveling to various national parks and museums. Perhaps the most treasured memory of Maxine was her thoughtful birthday cards and beautifully handwritten letters that she would send to family and friends and were often filled with encouragement and Bible verses to commemorate happy milestones or help them through difficult times. She loved the Lord and was not afraid to share that love with those she deeply cared about.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Carl and Carlotta Butterfield, her beloved husband, Wendell James Noller, sister, Barbara, brother-in-law, Charles Sumner, and brother, Dale (Sharon) Butterfield.
Surviving are her siblings, Courtland of Vinton, Iowa, Chet of Vinton, Iowa, and Hazel of Grinnell, Iowa; children Carla Boddicker, Cathy (Paul) Beck of Elkader, Iowa, and Wendell James Jr. of Marion, Iowa; grandchildren, Joshua Boddicker, Jacob Boddicker, Matthew (Joanna) Boddicker, Michael Boddicker, Cheyanne (Karl) Kofmehl, Michael (Jade) Beck, Brian Beck, Dumitru Beck; great-grandchildren, Abram, Ellis, Jordan, Adam, Noah, Gabriel, Stefan, Luca, Bree, Felix, Penelope, Julian, Laydon, Zander, Leila, Kolbe, and Annika.
A special thank-you to Tipton Ambulance, Cedar Memorial of Cedar Rapids, and the doctors and staff at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics SNICU for their exceptional and compassionate care of Maxine and her family.
