Miriam Scott Hellwig, 93, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at the Keystone Nursing Care Center from complications of old age. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at St. John Lutheran Church, Keystone, with the Rev. Richard Osslund officiating. Interment will be held at the Keystone Cemetery. Friends may register at the church from 9 a.m. until service time Friday.
A memorial fund has been established for the Keystone Nursing Care Center, St. John Lutheran Church or St. Luke’s Hospice.
Miriam was born Nov. 28, 1917, at Boone, to Joshua and Matilda (Foes) Scott and graduated from the Boone High School and then from the American Institute of Business. She was employed at Holst Publishing in Boone and the Ordinance Plant in Ankeny and later as a teller at Keystone Savings Bank.
On Aug. 29, 1942, she was united in marriage to Roland A. Hellwig at Boone and the couple made their home in Keystone. Roland preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 2010.
Miriam was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone where she enjoyed singing in the choir. In her leisure she enjoyed needle point, cross stitching and golfing. She was an avid Hawkeye sports fan and her greatest pleasure came from caring for her nieces and nephew.
She is survived by her sister, Corinne (Stanley) Barber of Iowa City; her nieces, Jay (Tim) Feuerbach of Keystone, and Ann Doyle of Coralville; and her nephew, Scott Barber of Fort Collins, Colo.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Maurice Scott.
