Bonnie Mae (Dirksen) Troe, age 90, passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids on Friday, May 15, 2026.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 23, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vinton, with Father James Brokman as Celebrant. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may visit with the family prior to Mass on Saturday from 9:30 until 10:15 AM, at St. Mary’s.

Bonnie Mae Dirksen was born to Albert and Dorothy (Muehe) Dirksen on October 4, 1935 and baptized at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Bonnie attended school through eighth grade at St. Theodore’s and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1954. Following high school, Bonnie worked in the shipping department at Queen Stoves in Albert Lea.

Bonnie was united in marriage to Ken Troe on May 25, 1957, in St Theodore’s Catholic Church. The 59-year union provided six children, Steve (Orlando, FL), Karen (Alan) Hummel (North Oaks, MN), Bill, (Omaha, NE, David (Terri), Boone, IA, Barb (Joe Geiger), Lone Tree, IA, Lisa (Dan) Badger, Newton, IA, 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Ken and Bonnie moved their family to Vinton in 1974 for Ken’s work. Bonnie worked for the Vinton-Shellsburg School District in Food Service for 22 years before retiring.

In addition to their children, Bonnie is survived by brother Dan (Mina) Dirksen and Mike (Lisa) Dirksen and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ken on June 21, 2016; father and mother; sister Catherine Bermer, sister and brother-in-law Bev and Art Benjegerdes; brother and sister-in-law Don and Sue Dirksen; mother-in-law and father-in-law Arthur and Cora Troe; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Ruth and Herb Leonhardi; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Violet and Vernell Kvale; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Arnold and Joan Troe.

All of those that know her understand her priorities are always family, faith and her community.
