Colleen Barnes, 76, passed away Thursday, 5/28/2026 at the University of Iowa Hospital.

Visitation will be held at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E 6th Street, Vinton, IA) on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Services will be held at 11:00 AM at the Chapel, and interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg. Casket will be closed at all times.

Colleen was born on 7/4/1949 in Shellsburg to Fred and Beulah (Lint) Neal. She graduated from Shellsburg High School in 1967. On 4/18/1973, she was united in marriage to Fay Barnes in Rockford, Illinois. She worked as a custodian for Center Point – Urbana High School for about 20 years, and retired in 2020.

Colleen was an active member of the Urbana Christian Church. She loved to do crosswords, play bingo, and play cards. She loved visiting with people and sharing stories. She loved spending time with her family, being together and cooking. She loved going to garage sales and the Amish shops. She enjoyed being the family historian and share what she learned.

Colleen is survived by her children, Robert (Jessi) Barnes of Urbana and Nina (Jim) Goersch of Vinton; her grandchildren, Christopher Goersch, Allen (Shelly) Richart, Trisha (Scott) Richart-Ford, Megan (Matt) Steensen, Di Ray-Barnes, Falcon Barnes, and Tye (Kaleb) Barnes; and her great-grandchildren, Jayda, Kahrin, Karah, and Cole.

Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Beulah; her husband, Fay Barnes; and her sister, Janet Kepler.
