Dorothy Franklin Schoonover, 80, died Monday, April 26, 2010 at Windsor Manor in Vinton following a brief illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton with Rev. Tom Hartwell officiating. Interment will be held at Bear Creek Cemetery north of Vinton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 AM until service time on Saturday. A memorial fund has been established.
Dorothy was born August 1, 1929 at Traer to Glen and Leola (Finch) Franklin. She married Dan Poorman in 1948 and he preceded her in death. On June 25, 1965, she married Leo Schoonover at Vinton and Leo preceded her in death on May 11, 2007.
Dorothy had worked as a waitress. She loved making candy, especially fudge and she loved fishing and growing flowers.
She is survived by her sons, Bill (Susan) Poorman of Omaha, NE and John (Diane) Poorman of Vinton; her step-son, Carey Poorman of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sisters, Ima Jean Smally and Ruth Lattimer, both of Vinton; and her brother, Dale Franklin of Naples, FL.
In addition to her parents and two husbands; she was preceded in death by her son, Delbert Poorman; her brothers, Melvin and Merton Franklin; and her sister, Thelma Cabalka.
