VINTON - Roy J. Henry, 91 of Vinton, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness. He was born July 4, 1920, in Bovina, Colorado, to Fred & Luetta Henry. Roy moved to Iowa at the age of 18. He was united in marriage to Margaret Burroughs in Vinton on November 22, 1941.
Roy worked for several companies but spent the majority of his career with the City of Vinton’s Water Dept., retiring after 29 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with family, being outdoors and playing penny slots and having meals with Margaret at the casino.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Vinton; three children: Cathy (Russ) Funk of Texas; Carol (Ron) Geiger of Vinton; and Steve (Karyl) Henry of Mt. Auburn; 8 grandchildren: Michelle Gaylord, Annette (Russ) Coons, Wendy Geiger, James (Nancy) Geiger, Greg Geiger, Tracie (Flave) Markland, Jeff Henry and Steve (Stacie) Henry; 17 great-grandchildren: Chris Lough, Eric (Kristina) Lough, Shannon (Ken) Juhasz, Charlie Brownell, Patrick (Lisa) Flick, Michael Flick, Steven (Becca) Shingledecker, Theresa Shingledecker, Nick Markland, Ben Markland, Kaleb Henry, Amanda Henry, Stevie Henry, Ethan Henry, Collin Henry, Maggie Henry and Joseph Henry; 5 great-great-grandchildren: Justice and Faith Juhasz, Adrianna Flick, and Steven and Aona Shingledecker; one brother: Ray Henry; and two sisters: Daisy Jackson and Mabel Hutton.
Roy was preceded in death by a son, Donald; a son-in-law, Chuck Lerch; a granddaughter, Lori Lough; and two sisters.
