VINTON: Raymond “Papa” Murphy, Sr., 63 of Vinton died Monday, March 12, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, March 16, 2012 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton with Pastor Joshua Graber and Brother Brian Weems officiating. Committal Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday at Kostza Cemetery, south of Belle Plaine. Visitation will be from 4 – 6 PM, Thursday also at the funeral home. A Memorial Fund has been established.

Raymond was born August 31, 1948 to Edward and Evelyn Butterfield Murphy at Cedar Rapids. He was united in marriage to Candy Niedert in 1978. He was saved by Brother Parchmen at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Vinton.

Raymond worked as a truck driver for many years. In his leisure he enjoyed tinkering with cars, camping, fishing and picnics. He also enjoyed membership in the Fire Bird Nation.

He is survived by his wife, Candy of Vinton; his three sons, Jimmy Murphy of Vinton, Christian Murphy of Cedar Rapids and Raymond Lee Murphy, Jr. of Vinton; his four grandchildren, his two great grandchildren; and his sisters LaDonna (Lyle) Marter of Vinton and Elizabeth (Larry) Caniff of Minnesota.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, his two sons, Jay McIntyre-Murphy, Billy Murphy; his two brothers, Paul and Eddie Murphy and his sister, Rosie Williams.
