Kathryn E. Cottrell
VINTON: Kathryn E. Cottrell, 80 of Vinton died Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Vinton following an extended illness. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 25, 2012 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton. Interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, rural Vinton. Friends may register one hour prior to the memorial service on Friday. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Kathryn E. Abernathey was born April 25, 1932 to Ross and Rea Whiting Abernathey at Vinton. She was united in marriage to Marion Cottrell on September 10, 1966 at Independence. Marion preceded her in death on May 10, 2010.
Kathryn is survived by her daughters, Conneye Dulin of Cedar Rapids, Veanus (Jim) Hiler of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter-in-law, Deanna Abernathey of Brandon; fourteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren; her brother, Richard Abernathey of Vinton and three sisters, Jean Thompson of Marion, Elsie Wilhelm of Vinton and Karen Scheppler of Norwalk.
In addition to her parents and husband, Kathryn was preceded in death by her son, Gene Abernathey; two great grandsons; her brother, Donald, her three sisters, Nadine Quinby and Kay Ann Russum and Darlene Hodges.
