BLAIRSTOWN:

William Paul Ohlen, 71 of Blairstown died August 22, 2012 on his farm west of Blairstown surrounded by his family. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown with Rev. David Rempfer officiating. Interment will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery south of Blairstown. Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m. Friday also at the church. A memorial fund has been established. Phillips Funeral Home in Blairstown is in charge of arrangements.

William was born July 11, 1941 to Paul and Donna (Kading) Ohlen at Cedar Rapids. He attended school in Blairstown and graduated from Blairstown High School with the Class of 1959. In 1961 he was united in marriage to Cynthia Holmes and they were blessed with three children, Todd, Kimberly and Julie. William and Cynthia later divorced. He was united in marriage to Marsha Strong on April 4, 1996 at Marengo.

William spent his entire life on the farm and loved every minute of it. He was raised, lived, worked and died on the family farm. Family was always at the center of William’s life, he always put family first. He was a wonderful husband, father, step-father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. William would often sit on the front porch and wave to his many friends as they went by or go for long rides in the country in his truck. He also loved to take trips driving his motor home.

In his leisure William also enjoyed showing cattle with his children, traveling, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and camping. He also enjoyed many campfires at the lake with family and friends.

William is survived by his wife Marsha of Blairstown; his children: Todd Ohlen of Atlanta, GA and his daughter Megan of Chicago, IL; Kimberly Ohlen of Cedar Rapids, Julie (Paul) Lynn and their children Colton, Mackenzie, Hunter and Dalton all of Victor; his step-children: Chad (Sherry) Mattison and their children, Baylea (Grant) Hinrichs and Ryann all of Marengo, Melissa (Jeff) Miller and their daughter Abbie all of Cedar Rapids; his sister, Bette Lee of Norway and a special cousin, Robert (Jean) Ohlen of Blairstown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Donna(Kading) and his sister, Bonnie Stallman.
