VINTON: Bernita E. Flickinger, 82, died Sunday, December 23, 2012 at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton with Rev. Stephen K. Preus officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the church. A Memorial Fund has been established.

Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.

Bernita was born September 9, 1930 in rural Benton County to Herman and Adelia (Schminke) Alpers. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton with the class of 1948.

On December 10, 1950 she was united in marriage to Harold Flickinger at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton. Harold preceded Bernita in death on December 5th.

She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Bernita worked as a clerk for the Benton County Treasurer’s Office for nearly twenty years.

She is survived by her children: Teresa (George) Vopelak of Dysart and Craig Flickinger of Vinton; her grandchildren, Derek (Tammy) Vopelak of Dysart and Josh (Ali) Volante of Clutier; her great-grandsons, Clayton and Coleton Vopelak; sister, Goldie (Don) Shaffer of Vinton; her sister-in-law, Lauretta Petersen of Cedar Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Bernita was preceded in death by her sisters, Hazel Alpers, Ruby Huppert and Rachel Butts.
