VINTON:
Pauline Thompson, 98, died Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Anamosa Care Center in Anamosa following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Vinton where friends may register from 9 a.m. until service.The service will be officiated by Rev. Walt Grimes. Interment will be held at Bear Creek Cemetery north of Vinton.
Pauline was born June 16, 1914 to Carl and Leora (Sommerbeck) Epperson and graduated from Vinton's Lincoln High School in 1931.
In 1932 she was united in marriage to Elmer A. Thompson in Morrison, IL.The couple farmed in the Vinton area.Elmer preceded her in death.
Pauline was a long time employee as a nurse's aide at Virginia Gay Annex.Known to many as "Grandma Thompson", she enjoyed the hard work required of a farmwife and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and quilting in her leisure.She also enjoyed fishing.Pauline was a long time member of the First Christian Church and ladies organizations of the congregation.
Pauline is survived by her children, Edward Thompson of North Home, MN, Carol (Robert) Simmons of Central City, and Sharon (Larry) Williams of Vinton; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and nineteen great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, John.
