VINTON – Shirley Rae Geiger, 58, died Sunday, February 10, 2013, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following a long illness.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. Per Shirley’s wishes, she will be cremated following the visitation and inurnment will be held in the spring at the Brandon Cemetery.
Shirley was born April 21, 1954, in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred and Gladys Gray Lectenberg. She graduated from college in Sacramento, California, majoring in graphic design.
On April 25, 1970, Shirley was united in marriage with Terry Geiger in Vinton, Iowa. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Sacramento and Pasco, WA, before returning to Vinton. While in Washington, Shirley worked as a graphic designer and drew print ads for a clothing catalog. For the past 21 years, she had been a clerk at Theisen’s in Vinton.
Shirley loved gardening, reading, cooking and baking. She loved spending time with her family, particularly at Christmas, her favorite holiday.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 42 years, Terry Geiger, of Vinton; her mother, Gladys Lectenberg of Cedar Falls; one son, Jeremy Geiger of Vinton; two daughters: Keri Sanders of Vinton and Jesse Geiger of Hiawatha; one brother, Roger Lectenberg of Hudson; two sisters: Ann Grogins of New Hampton and Rosie Zimmer of Conwell; four grandchildren: Lacey, Meranda, Sidney and Addison; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
A memorial fund has been established.
