Irene Ramsey, 94, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Windsor Manor Assisted Living in Vinton. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton with the Rev. Stephen K. Preus officiating. The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Private interment will be in the Marengo Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.

Irene was born Dec. 11, 1918, on the family homestead in rural Iowa County to William and Nellie (McKusker) Sherlock. She attended school in rural Arlington and Belle Plaine and graduated from Belle Plaine High School. Irene spent three years in the study of “Teaching Subjects and Methods” sponsored by the State of Iowa to receive her Teachers Certificate, she also attended Business College in Cedar Rapids. She worked as a teacher until she was married to Nyle M. Ramsey on May 21, 1939, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 1998. Irene worked as an office manager for the Farmers Home Administration. During World War II, Irene also worked for the F.B.I.
Irene was a longtime and active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton where she participated in the Mission Circle and Fireside Club. She also was a member of National TTT Society — Chapter AZ, the Wandling Wendel Legion Auxiliary where she served as president, the Iowa County Historical Society, the Vinton Country Club and the Vinton Women’s Club. Irene enjoyed golfing with her friends and playing bridge with several bridge clubs.
Irene is survived by her nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by her sister, Lanore Brown; her brother, Robert Sherlock; her nephew, Jim Sherlock; and her niece, Roberta Kennison.
