VINTON: Charlene R. Cordes, 74, of Vinton, went to be with the Lord on July 3, 2013, at MercyMedical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

A Celebration of Charlene's life will be held 1 PM, Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton with Rev. Don Williams officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time. Private family interment services will be held at Big Grove Cemetery near Garrison.

Charlene was born November 27, 1938, in Vinton, the daughter of George E. and Lena (Criswell) Geiger.

Charlene is survived by her daughter, Rhonda (Steve) Juehring, Marion, her son Ryan, (Heather) Montgomery, Springfield, MO; her four grandchildren, Jennifer (Adam) Juehring-Hill, Joshua Juehring, Zachary Montgomery, Ian Montgomery, their mother Jane Montgomery; her sister Darlene Werning and her brother, Ronald (Carol) Geiger, both of Vinton, IA.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Norman Geiger and brother-in-law, Robert Werning.

Charlene enjoyed a fascinating career in public relations and advertising. She received numerous National ADDY Awards for her creative advertising campaigns. Her most recent position was the Director of Communications for the Sisters of Mercy in Cedar Rapids.

Char treasured her friends and family. She enjoyed baking and making beautifully-crafted, personalized gifts for each of them.

Most importantly, Charlene loved the Lord Jesus. She described herself as 'a true believer following our Lord Jesus Christ'.
