If ACA is such a good deal, how come private sector unions, government sector unions, Congressional Staff, large corporations all request or have been granted a “carve out”? (Many Unions have Cadillac plans that have been gained through years of contract negotiations – they do not want to give in to this government mandate, and give up the gains made over decades of negotiations.)
The Federal Government is indeed showing how incapable it is to enter into operations that should stay in the private sector. One of the easiest things to do to improve Medical Insurance and lower costs is to allow cross state line competition. Cancel mandates for coverage – individuals with their agents should decide what items should be insured. If a person is beyond child bearing capability why should he/she pay premiums covering pregnancy? Or birth control, or HIV or STDs. One may need coverage for only catastrophic items.
Insurance’s purpose is to protect ones assets – if no assets there may be no need for coverage, particularly when present law requires that health care must be administered. Mandated insurance increases premiums on the healthy and very young.
The President and Congress should admit their error and start over!
Congress should pass no law that exempts itself from it.
