To the Editor,

"Survival in the market often requires recognizing mistakes and changing course. Survival in politics requires denying mistakes, continuing the currant policies, adding new ones to correct the old ones, and then blaming the bad consequences on others. Social crusaders are not forced to confront the consequences of their choices, even in their own minds or consciences much less pay a tangible price for the havoc they leave in their wake while feeling noble.” From Thomas Sowell's book, The Housing Boom and Bust

Watching Neil Cavuto’s programs lately he has interviewed both D and Rs. Both sides recognize major problems with the ACA (Affordable Care Act). Both sides recognize major rework will have to be done. Some, of course, wish to repeal.

Progressive policies will once again hurt the people they say they wish to help. Companies such as UPS have announced they will drop family coverage (many others have done the same – more will follow). The employee will still be covered by the company’s plan. So, where is the spouse and children supposed to go for coverage -- an exchange? Where does the cost curve for this employee go? --- this cost comes out of pocket.

Iowa does have plans for the financially challenged – Medicaid is just one. Medical care cannot be denied. As one legislator characterized ACA – now our medical care will mimic the care given by the VA. In some cases O K in others sadly lacking. Admit the error and change the law.

ZZ October 8, 2013, 12:56 pm So many people warned of insurance cost increases, but I really wanted to hear specific cases and numbers. Well, I just heard from my dad (age 56, single, no dependents) that his private health care provider raised his premium by 42% as of last week. Affordable care? Nope.
