Opinion : To the Editor: Why Todd Wiley is best candidate for supervisor

To all citizens of Benton county:

On November 5th we elect a new member for the Board of Supervisors and we hope you agree with us that Todd Wiley is the best candidate for the job. We keep hearing about all the things that are wrong with our government yet only a small percent of us take the time to vote. Some would say we get the government we deserve, but we think that in Benton County we deserve the best government possible that is why we are supporting Todd Wiley for County supervisor.

One of the things that really turns us off is the phrase” we can’t do anything about that” which we hear that all too often from our elected officials. But let me tell you Todd Wiley instead asks “How can we do something about that.” He has demonstrated the kind of forward thinking in everything he has done. When he started farming he didn’t just start raising pigs, he looked for a way he could position himself to move forward and thus he established a new swine genetics business. Todd’s approach has always been “How can we do things better.” With this forward approach he quickly rose to the top leadership in the state and national pork producers groups where others recognized his can do attitude and repeatedly elected him to represent them at the highest levels of policy leadership. We have witnessed his tireless work at the national levels when we worked in Washington DC.

Todd firmly believes that he has a responsibility to do, as the 4-H motto says “To make the best better.” That is why he served for 9 years on the local school board where other members told us the he was always well prepared, had researched the issues, was willing to ask the tough questions and look for ways to get things done in a way that improved the process for all involved. That certainly didn’t mean that he was a rubber stamp for everything proposed but made sure that we as taxpayers were getting the best possible return for our investment. We sincerely believe that this view of getting the most from our tax dollars is an absolute necessity for any elected official, but that shouldn’t necessary mean that we should simply reduce spending at the expense of good ideas.

With his family roots deeply in the Benton county soil, Todd Wiley truly has a longtime relationship with the people of Benton county and is now looking for a way to repay the people of Benton county for all the opportunities that he has been fortunate to enjoy, He is “good people” with an exceptional talent to get things done and he is willing to devote himself to make Benton County an even better place to live, work and enjoy all the things that too many of us take for granted. We truly believe that Todd Wiley is the best person to serve on the Benton County board of supervisors.

We encourage everyone to vote on November 5th and we ask you to vote for the future by voting for Todd Wiley.
