I love figuring out how something works.
Today I was pleasantly surprised to see our inbox brimming over with news tidbits, and thought, "I wonder how many contributors we've had over the last almost 9 months." So I counted, 142.
Then I thought and how many articles, 2122.
Can't stop. The number of different advertisers we've had? 50.
How many people are pulling this off? 2
And all because of the dream and imagination of 1.
I still have a love/hate relationship with technology.
I will probably never understand how this guy Wes, puts all kinds of letter, numbers and other marks on his computer, hits the enter button and you now have Vinton Today.
Nor will I understand how when I send him an email that says, "Help I'm too stupid to figure this out, what's happening?" he explains it in English so it makes sense.
Don't get it, but I love it!
I also love the ability to google, JUST about everything.
Googling for me is a new concept. In the good 'ol days, you asked someone smarter than you were for answers, or got out 'google in a box' an encyclopedia to find the answers.
The other day I was trying to find a song for a Christmas play, I have the song, I charted the song, played it for a choir, and do you think I could find it on YouTube? Nope.
About the time I'm getting really frustrated, my dear husband walked in and gave a huge sigh and said, "I need to teach people how to google." He's right of course. I can never find what I'm looking for, but he usually finds it in a few seconds.
Anyway, long story ending, he couldn't find it either! :)
I've learned that Facebook is the new phone book.
I never hardly crack a phone book open anymore, if I need to find someone or ask them a question, I find them on facebook.
This website has become your electronic community bulletin board.
I look at it as a homey way, in an electronic jungle, to get the news out to everyone.
I still laugh when I think about the big city reporter in Des Moines who said of our little operation, "Well they can't be there 24/7" I wanted to kick her in the shins and say, "You wanna bet lady?" Granted we aren't on the computer 24/7, just 23.5/7 :)
The difference between her job and mine is this, my "job" is fun, so I pop into the "office" all day and night to see what's happening next!
It's exciting to be the gal at the switchboard getting all the messages off my machine and plugging them into the right slot and sending them on their way to your homes, offices and all those other gadgets you have.
So in closing, don't forget to send in those Christmas events, let us know what's happening at your church, and community activities. We'll be more than happy to get the word out for you!
To our readers, you are the reason we are here.
To those of you who have sent in a donation toward this effort, we appreciate it so much!
To our wonderful advertisers, you are the ones that ultimately make this possible, a special thanks to all of you!
So everyone, have 1 Merry Christmas!
