Dear Editor:

Democrats and my critics will have a hard time backtracking if this works before other therapies are available. My prayer is that recoveries increase and fatalities decrease!! And that researchers find plasma or other therapies 100% successful. Time is of the essence we can't wait for traditional double-blind trials.

The naysayers: If a democrat advocated this therapy it would be heralded as the "game-changer", but not so because the hated Trump advocated Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin. It appears much to the chagrin of Democrats, leftists and Communists particularly Lindsey, Braden, Schwartz, and Gould that this therapy works. A full transcript of the Ingraham interview: here

Professor Didier Raoult of Maarseille hospital a biologist and professor of microbiology, according to Dr. Mehmet Oz treated 1061 Covid-19 patients with Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin of that number 973 did not shed virus after 10 days or less of treatment, none needed a ventilator. I am unable to find data as to the outcome of other 88. I have seen reports that the normal dosages range from 400-600mg. daily. I may be mistaken, but the French Doctor may have used double these dosages.

"As many as 4,000 people in New York are currently being treated with hydroxychloroquine, the New York Post reports:

A state Health Department official said the [Department of Health] has shipped doses of hydroxychloroquine to 56 hospitals across New York, distributing enough "to treat 4,000 patients to date." Patients have received doses as part of four- or 10-day regimens, officials said. The University of Albany's School of Public Health is observing the drug's impact on the patients, and its preliminary study could come back in weeks instead of the usual months, officials said

"There's a dispute as to whether it treats symptoms or cures the disease. But it works. And we don't have the luxury right now for a perfect solution," President Trump's personal lawyer(Rudy Giuliani) said.

Fox News host Sean Hannity also questioned why New York doctors can't prescribe the drugs outside of a hospital setting.

"I live on Long Island and many doctors are telling me that they want to prescribe this medication to their patients who test positive for COVID-19 - the disease caused by the coronavirus - but do NOT need the patient to come to a hospital," Hannity said in a Saturday op-ed. "However, Cuomo's executive order forbids pharmacies from filling the prescriptions."

Cuomo, Hannity said, "is creating a much bigger crisis in his state's hospital system by denying New Yorkers THE CHOICE (in consultation with their doctors) to take this potentially life-saving medication."

A few days ago, NBC News reporter Peter Alexander accused President Trump of offering Americans a "false sense of hope" in the midst of the Wuhan virus pandemic. Trump noted, rightfully, that Alexander was a terrible reporter who seemed more interested in promoting panic rather than balanced optimism over potential treatments that could be effective against COVID-19. In Alexander's defense, there are a lot of terrible reporters.

A drug known as (hydroxy)chloroquine, for example, has been used for decades to treat malaria and anecdotal evidence suggests the drug may also be effective at treating COVID-19. The drug is approved by the FDA to treat other ailments and sufferers of the coronavirus could begin receiving the drug, the reasoning goes, in case the preliminary data is correct and the drug is an effective treatment for COVID-19.

Of course, when Trump touts the potential treatment the media accuses him of giving Americans a "false sense of hope." But when Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that New York has acquired 70,000 units of hydroxychloroquine and 750,000 units of chloroquine, the media hail the governor for his leadership.

Here's CNN's Brian Stelter praising Gov. Cuomo for "providing hope but not false hope" when the governor is just repeating the same thing the president said days ago.

"[W]e are all optimistic that it could work," Gov. Cuomo said about the potential treatment on Sunday. "I have spoken with a number of health officials and there is a good basis to believe that they could work."

There is certainly conclusive evidence to show the media are politicizing this pandemic to unfairly criticize President Trump.

"The president ordered the FDA to move," Gov. Cuomo admitted, "and the FDA moved."

The governor said drug trials will begin in New York on Tuesday.

Regards,

John Stiegelmeyer

VB April 13, 2020, 8:54 pm John, this is why they shouldn't be mass prescribing this drug, maybe you need to read these articles:

VB April 14, 2020, 9:44 am John, I did not comment to start a political war about this, I just know that too many people are uninformed &/or misinformed about too many things. If this combo does in fact work for some people that's great! But we also need to be looking for other solutions. People that actually use these medications for other diseases like Lupus & rheumatoid arthritis are already having difficulty finding their meds, some people can't take the Z-pac, like my daughter & myself. Think if it were one of your family members in this situation, wouldn't you want other options, more clinical trials? 11% of people have adverse reactions to these meds. I don't the exact population of Vinton, but if we have 5,000 people, & they all are prescribed this combo, now we 550 people in Vinton alone that will end up having more health problems on top of the COVID-19. That doesn't sound like a good solution to me.

DL April 14, 2020, 1:46 pm John, What don't you understand about THE PRESIDENT ISN'T A DOCTOR!?!?!?!?!?!? In no situation should a president of either party be prescribing medication for anyone, in any situation. You only talk about the potential successes. You don't mention the possibilities of people that have heart conditions, dying from sudden cardiac arrest, from this medication. It's the reason that HYDROXYcloroquine was developed. It has a lesser possibility of this happening than Chloroquine. But, with the administering of either on, any doctor is going to order an EKG first. The effectiveness of the drug also depends on it being administered very early on in the infection. Once the cells in the lungs start being destroyed, it's too late for this drug to help.

So stop saying that anyone is against any process that can help fight this virus. Because it makes you look stupid. Just stop cheering on a president that is prescribing a drug to all Americans, that will kill 10% of them. Like I've told you before, there are people that can get that drug without a written prescription. And, heart disease is one of the most under-diagnosed diseases in America.
DL April 14, 2020, 2:09 pm John, Today, April 14, the CIA warned it's complete workforce that taking HYDROXYcloroquine can cause dangerous side effects, including sudden death.
BJ April 14, 2020, 2:13 pm Someone needs to turn off Fox News.
NG April 14, 2020, 9:18 pm John, for some reason you seem to think if I don't agree with you and impeached 45 that I want people to die.
If this medication works there will be no need to "backtrack." They have to do trials, they can't just start giving meds willy-nilly to people and hope they don't die. That is not the way things are done in the US and you know it. Why would we change now just because impeached 45 and Hannity believe it will work. They are not Drs. A Democrat would not advocate for this therapy because they care about the people whose lives could be affected. It would be like playing Russian Roulette with someones life. Impeached 45's friend Bill O'Reilly said many of those that died were on their last legs anyway which, of course, isn't true. Only a Republican would say something like that.

It is amazing how impeached 45, Hannity and you think you have all the answers on how all this should work how it should be prescribed and how safe it is. Are you a Dr now too?

You whine about the media criticizes 45 for what he says about the drug and praising Gov Cuomo. You think it may have something to do with Cuomo giving them hope but not false hope because he is holding drug trials in New York? I would trust that before I would ever trust 45 or Hannity or you telling me to take a drug, that is for sure.

NG April 15, 2020, 3:17 am I just have one more comment to make to you John that describes the Republican party perfectly. No matter how many lies impeached 45 tells and what he does to break the law you all follow along like little puppy dogs. It is disgusting to watch how Congress has lost all sense of right and wrong and the old Republican party, the conservative party is gone. There is only one answer and Dwight D. Eisenhower says it perfectly, it is all about power. In order to be the party in power Republicans will stoop as low as necessary, doesn't matter. The statement by Dwight D Eisenhower follows:
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.
