I'm relatively new to this whole reporting aspect of the "newspapering" world, so was a bit surprised to find that there are just some things you cannot print.

If you commit a crime locally, and get your mugshot taken, we get to show the whole world who you are.

However, if you deal in child porn, which becomes a federal case, they will protect you.

We cannot show your face, even though you've shown porn of little kids to God know how many people across the world, but we can't show YOUR face.

That's wrong, wrong, wrong!

Now, I was told if the dude was a fugitive, we'd get their picture to show you.

Usually in this business we can find a picture some place of a person, and in cases like this it's kinda nice, especially if you have children, to be able to say, okay, I see this guy, and he's bad news, and then make a mental note if you see this guy to keep your kids away.

But thanks to our government, who for some odd reason, finds the time to protect our criminals and not balance the checkbook, there are some creeps, I mean people, we can't identify with a picture...so much for freedom of the press...

S February 22, 2011, 12:52 pm but- if he is a registered sex offender, you can show the LINK to his profile on the state\'s website. THAT will show his picture, and YOU didn\'t do it. It is a matter of public record.....ED-he\'s not yet there...we checked ;)
J February 22, 2011, 4:37 pm Maybe because people are innocent until proven guilty? Maybe we shouldn\'t shoot first, ask questions later. In no way do I endorse child porn, just the justice system and process. And as the other person pointed out, once they are convicted and are on the sex offender registry, then go ahead.
