Letter to the Editor: Vaccine mandate vs. SCOTUS

Dear Editor:

Both Candidate Biden and Candidate Harris campaigned that if President Trump recommended the vaccine that J&J, Moderna, or Pfizer developed they would not take it – It’s Trump’s vaccine. Now they as President and Vice President wish to mandate all people take the shots or be fired! Now lawsuits against mandatory vaccination are being heard by the Supreme Court. There can be no argument that President Trump cleared the way for “operation warp speed”. Getting the medical bureaucracy to move quickly was a major triumph – one year to get a vaccine – nowhere in history. Now I am hearing questions by the liberals on the court that indicate they do not have knowledge of the virus or treatment. Yee Gods, where have they been? Only Congress has the power to legislate – not the courts.

This is a major flip flop by the President and Vice President that if we as a people do not get vaccinated we are anti-American. There are reasons why people do not wish to be vaccinated; and there are effective therapeutics available for their treatment if given early in their diagnosis. The people presently in charge are failing in their duty. The Trump haters have had their way – now what?

ST January 11, 2022, 12:47 pm Hospitals nationwide are filled with Corona patients and canceling elective surgeries to try and save the lives, of unvaccinated individuals. Perhaps some of you all don’t talk to your doctors about this. For the life of me, I can’t imagine why. As we get older, regular visits to a competent medical professional can extend our lives. Beats watching obscure videos or listening to unqualified opinions, from n my opinion.

DL January 10, 2022, 1:51 pm Well, there you go again, John. You have, undoubtedly, seen or heard of the 2-3 videos making the rounds on right-wing social media. To say those videos are highly edited would be a severe understatement. I have the transcripts of two of those speeches/interviews. What you are claiming, and what those videos are edited to make you believe, is that both candidates, Biden and Harris, made statements that they would not take a "Trump vaccine". That is not what either on of them said. What Harris said was;that she would not take a vaccine because Donald Trump said it was okay. She went on to say that she would be first in line to take it, if public health professionals, if Dr. Faucci, if the doctors/scientists that developed it, said that the efficacy was positive. In the Biden portion, the video is edited so it looks like he said that he wouldn't take the vaccine, because it wouldn't be put through enough testing. HE DID NOT SAY THAT! In his comment, he made the point that getting Americans to take the vaccine was going to be a challenge. He noted that Trump was not putting any plan together to deploy the shots, once they were approved for emergency use, and that the emergency use protocol may shy many people away from getting it. He went on to say that he would be the first person to get vaccinated, if the FDA and CDC approved it. Remember, we were only dealing with the Pfizer shot, at the start. Sir, you continue to have this nonsense published. I suggest that you catch up with the times, and understand that political lies are easy to debunk, with modern technology. Continually lying about things that can easily be confirmed false, with a publicly available transcript, because it's the only way that your minority party can win elections, is absurd. This type of political lying should be able to be prosecuted for defamation.

RB January 10, 2022, 1:00 pm As usual John leaves out key parts of the story. Trump had just recommended a malaria drug for COVID without CDC approval and testing and also asked Dr. Birx if one could ingest bleach at the time they were asked the question. They said they wouldn’t take any Trump recommended and would follow CDC and FDA guidance. That guidance came and both took the vaccine. I’ve had three ModernaVaccine shots. Those that don’t are putting people at risk. What is interesting is we have a vaccine mandate to attend school and people are ok with that.
