Dear Editor,
Preamble: Tuesday afternoon on KXEL radio, Sean Hannity's program featured a husband who called in that had lost his wife, Tammy, to the Covid virus. I can't relate the whole conversation, but I heard this, she was healthy, athletic, and should have enjoyed a long life with her partner, but she was taken by this brutal virus. The first test came back negative - then later the symptoms became more intense. At the hospital or emergency room she and he was told that she did not qualify for the therapeutics that in the end likely would have saved her, but, they were told she did not qualify for their use.
How can this be? He is heartbroken and I am as well listening to his torment. I am losing patience with the bureaucracy that seems to be controlling the medical protocols for treatment. Ms. Rood of the DM Reg. this should be on your front burner; this disease although on the downhill side is still deadly to some of our citizens. Our children are at low risk, those up to 35 are at low risk; those with underlying conditions or advanced age are at risk.
I am about to have my 81st summer - Sharon and I have had the two Moderna doses plus the booster - I have had what I feel is a simple cold for the last seven days, I have no fever, and my O2 exchange rate has been 94 or better. I asked for a test kit at our Pharmacy - none in inventory. Even if they had them the lab may take up to 72 hours to diagnose. Not acceptable!! Isolation and masks are not the answer - treatment is!
I cannot name the Country in Africa that routinely uses Hydroxychloroquine - that country has a high risk of malaria, but as a plus their rate of Covid is the lowest of any country - Why? This therapy works, but cannot be used here - why? There are other therapies that work also, why don't we know what they are???
The reason is that HDQ was mentioned by then President Trump. Anything that can discredit him is fair game and has been the "narrative" by the no-nothings on Major News outlets, and others on this website. These people have shown me how ignorant and evil they really are.
The other reason is that this drug has been used since the late '40's to great effect, but it is cheap and doesn't make the big bucks - that big Pharma is pushing as well as HIC CDC and others in the medical bureaucracy. We need to trust and name the clinicians who have success at treatment and what procedures they are using. This information should not be withheld from us who are still at risk. I have no patience with the Biden Administration - get off the dime - get' er done!
Last week I had a routine Med check with my medico. I asked about therapies. If I heard correctly his "quiver" is empty. He cannot get the therapeutics he needs - why?
We cannot stand for this inaction any longer. One of the government's first jobs to our citizens is to - "KEEP US SAFE". That is not happening in our big cities (crime on the rise) nor is it happening with this damn Virus!
Regards,
John Stiegelmeyer

As for other treatments, I think you should speak to your doctor again. Although Remdesivir has been proven ineffective on the Omicron variant, both the CDC and NIH have physician guidelines on several other medical therapies, on their websites. A few months ago, the CDC did shut down some pop-up treatment sites, that had been operating free to the public. This might be the source of your confusion.
According to the CDC and NIH websites, all of these medical therapies need to be administered with 24-48 hours from the time of first symptoms.
I did not say that country used Hydroxychloroquine to treat covid. I said they use it to prevent malaria and a plus is the low incidence of Covid. You have misstated the intent of my article again. You just have to stick to your demagoguery. Geez. Also, you do not address the issues I raise. Can anyone trust your judgment????
It's nice to see that Mr. Lindsey gave his keyboard a slight break. Either that or his fingertips are still bruised from the last pick 4 game.
Your critics have basic prejudges..."I cannot name the country in Africa that routinely uses Hydroxychloroquine - that country has a high risk of malaria, but as a plus their rate of Covid is the lowest of any country" - Why? This therapy works, but cannot be used here - why? There are other therapies that work also, why don't we know what they are??? The intent was that a product used for a specific purpose may have an unexpected results on a different purpose. You keep talking about heart problems with the malaria drug. Could it be you are confusing the physiology of Covid that not only causes pneumonia, blood clots in the longs, strokes and yes heart problems. If as you say there is risk of heart problems? How come this drug has been used with success at treating malaria and lupus??? 77 years. All drugs have side effects even aspirin. Most people can tolerate when dosage recommendations are followed.
You just show how your prejudices affect your judgment.
