Dear Editor,

An elderly couple in Vinton took it upon themselves to clean up the landscaping area around the Vinton Library recently. They pulled every single weed by hand! I know this because it was my brother and sister-in-law, Lowell and Mary Ellen Mahr. They didn't tell anyone they were planning to do this or they would've had helpers, like myself!

Vinton has had a big, ugly, negative spotlight on them recently regarding our library but we can't forget that our town is filled with amazing, generous, caring folks, like Lowell and Mary Ellen.

The city says they're not responsible for keeping up the grounds. So, who is responsible and why haven't they been keeping it up!
Drive by the library and check out their hard work and if you see Lowell or Mary Ellen, give them a big thank you! They have the biggest hearts!
Cindy Mahr Lower

FVS July 27, 2022, 4:03 pm I talked to them as I was leaving the library and thanked them for their hard work. They were both on their knees pulling weeds. Another volunteer was helping inside the library. Just another example of how Vintonians support each other and our community. Thank you Lowell and Mary Ellen. You're great role models.
DL July 27, 2022, 4:35 pm Thank you folks! I will be driving by to see your wonderful work. But, promise that you will write a letter, like this, when you have your next great idea. There will be plenty of extra help.
