Letter to the Editor: Does appearance matter?

Dear Editor,

Apparently, David Thompson thinks the race for Benton County attorney is about appearance.

He includes a medically compromised photo of his opponent in all of his ads. This act of desperation shows poor judgment, unbecoming etiquette and discrimination.

FM October 27, 2022, 7:32 pm There is nothing wrong with the way Ray looks. Stop body shaming him. That is the true issue. He looks fine.

MR October 22, 2022, 4:15 pm I thought that was an unusual tactic as well. Seems odd to have your opponents photo on your own ad. I will pay more attention to see who else runs that type of a campaign. I don’t feel people are questioning the photo itself but what was the purpose of advertising Ray’s photo???

RS October 21, 2022, 6:17 pm Re: Medically Compromised Photo The photo of Ray Lough came directly from his campaign Facebook and his campaign literature. The photo was printed as is. It has not been altered in any way. Campaign literature often times will include photos of the opponent. This is standard fair operating procedures for campaigns.

JT October 21, 2022, 5:40 pm Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the photo in question the exact same photo Mr. Lough himself has already used in his own campaign materials and on his Facebook page? It has been cropped for size,yes. But how is it inappropriate for one candidate to use this image when the subject in the picture has used it himself? Seems like unwarranted self-righteous indignation to me.

MP October 21, 2022, 5:16 pm If it is so wrong to use the photo of an opponent in this race then why isn't it in other races? This isn't something new people, politicians have been doing this forever. It appears to me that the photo in question was taken directly from Mr. Lough's own pamphlet. if it was so terrible maybe someone should have told Mr. Lough. Just Sayin. Mark Phippen
