"Keith had fun making Vinton a better place."

I spent a couple of hours Monday morning, learning more about Keith Mossman from his family and his pastor during his funeral. I first knew Keith as the lawyer whose grandson joined his practice, and later as one of the leaders of the efforts to support Virginia Gay Hospital. But I missed the first 40 years of watching Keith make Vinton a better place.

The other thing I remember from the funeral was a quote, not from Keith, but about him and how he dealt with people: "People don't remember what you did, or what you say. People remember how you make them feel."

Keith deserves a much longer tribute than this. But I think what his response would be do this column would simply be, "I prefer to see less writing about having fun making Vinton a better place, and more doing it."

JTB June 16, 2011, 12:56 pm When I think of Vinton since I have left, I have always thought about Keith, and how kind he always was to me, and how much he always did for Vinton.
June 16, 2011, 8:36 pm A lovely tribute Dean. Keith was a special person, and will be greatly missed. He did make Vinton a \"better place\" Thanks. Janet S.
JZ June 16, 2011, 10:14 pm Yes, you caught the essence of Keith. He had dreams for Vinton, but more than that he was always there to help others achieve THEIR dreams for Vinton. He had respect for everyone and for other people\'s ideas. He was not afraid of change.
jt June 19, 2011, 8:03 pm Sorry I was out of town the week of Keith\'s death and funeral. I remember him as a big supporter of our Vinton Community Band and would grab the bass drum mallet to help us \"keep the beat\" whenever we performed at farmer\'s market. His favorites were the marches. Every concert, from now on, will include a march for Keith.
