This weekend I did the traditional, loaded the kids in the car, took a road trip to visit my dad, and we went shoppng for dad for Father's Day.

While at Wal-Mart, I thought, "They USED to brag, that everything in the story was 'Made In the USA'", so it shouldn't have been hard to find something still made here.

We saw shirts made in Pakistan, things from Egypt, Mexico, and of COURSE China, We looked at shirts with our flag, made in Indonesia and finally found socks made by the Fruit of the Loom brand that were made in the USA!!!

I went looking for one specific thing and decided I WAS GOING TO BUY AMERICAN MADE.

I saved all kinds of money.

I looked at labels, and got angrier by the minute.

I couldn't find ONE American made item that I had on my list.

The kids picked out things for dad...which were made in Honduras, and the kicker a book about an American President printed in Italy.

The only thing we bought for dad that was made in the dear ol' USA, was his greeting cards.

Next year if we stick with strictly American Made items for Father's Day, this is what it would look like.

He would get a card and it looks like it will be given by our "American Made" children, since there doesn't seem to be much else to go with it...

Maybe the next time we head out and drive by a Wal-Mart we'll stop in, and turn it into a geography/percentage/economics class and leave the billfold at home, our lesson in patriotism.
