Dear Editor,
Call it chaotic, schizophrenic, or whiplash, the Trump/Musk administration completed another week called, “this is what we are going to do—no wait maybe not”.
For the second time, Trump started down the road of tariffs for Canada, Mexico, and China. Then within 24 hours, changed his mind, (for at least another month) and pulled the tariffs back. Wall Street was not having fun starting the week at 43,939 but closing on Friday at 42,108 down 1138.
On Tuesday night Trump spoke for one hour and forty minutes going through all of his grievances and lies. It was almost two hours that no one will ever get back of the same old thing we have all heard before ad nauseum.
The courts, thank goodness, are holding and providing a safeguard to the Trump/Musk Administration’s illegal firings. By the end the week, enough resistance from various places forced Trump to change direction. Below are a couple of sources that details a confrontation between Rubio and Musk as well as other cabinet members at a closed-door meeting. The end result was Trump changing course and finally reigning in Musk from the slash and burn of massive firings to give the power of hiring and firing to the Cabinet Secretaries in charge of the agencies rather than a billionaire who knows nothing about government.
Trump continues to distance our country from our obligation to protect Ukraine from the 1994 nuclear agreement that resulted in Ukraine giving up their nuclear weapons from the dissolution of the USSR. What was up is now down. Trump, who has had a long-time flirtation with Russia and Putin, is moving closer and closer to supporting Putin over, not only Ukraine, but our NATO allies.
Trying to make the case that the US should back away from NATO, Trump stated on Thursday that if the U.S. ever needed NATO’s support through Article 5, they (NATO) would probably not come to our aid. https://apnews.com/article/trump-nato-ukraine-c5fef35ca057a31a61cba6f611393999
This statement is horrendous since the only time Article 5 has ever been used was NATO coming to our aid supplying troops and support after 9/11. Not one NATO country demanded that the U.S. pay for the cost of that effort. NATO honored their obligations. I don’t understand Trump trying to make this case. Maybe he lives in such a bubble that he did not know that NATO was there for us in 2001, but it is common knowledge that they did. Somebody must have told him.
Or is it a convenient talking point to support his contention so he continues the lie?
Whatever it is, the President of our country should know such things but of course he also asked John Kelly, his chief of staff at the time why they were going to the site of the wreckage of the ship Arizona at Pearl Harbor. A fifth grader knows this, shouldn’t our President know something about our history, especially as notable as Pearl Harbor? https://www.businessinsider.com/trumppearl-harbor-memorial-tour-john-kelly-stable-genius-2020-1
On to the economy that is showing definite signs of instability due to Trump not knowing what policy he supports from day to day and the negative impacts that tariffs create. Musk and Trump continue their assault on veterans by firing thousands without any regard to what they do and has no regard that 30% of those employed by the VA our veterans. Services to veterans will be affected by this purge that could affect those veterans you know that need those services.
Musk and Trump has their eyes now on Social Security and keeps telling the lie that people over 150 are receiving SS checks. https://www.snopes.com/news/2025/03/07/trump-musk-social-security-fraud/
Reports that over 7,000 people will be fired from SS and a possibility that seniors may have problems getting their monthly checks in the future. Despite what the administration says Medicare and Medicaid is off the table, does anyone actually believes that?
I could not cover everything this inept administration has done this week. Wait for next week. One thing that the Trump administration excels in is creating chaos and uncertainty.

P.S. I thought I was done with this letter but then I saw this website;
DOGE cannot shoot straight if given a bazooka. Musk wants to sell federal buildings around the country and released a list of possible properties but in their incompetence, they listed a secret CIA building. Great work, you guys!
Here’s a good one. Hegseth, in his quest to delete anything he thinks is “DEI” has pulled a webpage depicting the Enola Gay. Of course, Enola Gay is the name of the plane that dropped the nuclear bomb on Hiroshima in 1945. Hegseth must of did a search for anything gay and came up with this one. This is what happens when absurdity replaces intelligence. (Anyone finding a gay fighter plane, please let us all know.)
