Sometimes I have to wonder if there isn't any creativity left in Hollywood, New York or wherever else they film TV shows.
At our house, we enjoy a few of the newer shows, like Castle, or The Mentalist, Burn Notice or a new series we found called White Collar.
On the flip side we also enjoy the reruns of Moonlighting, Remington Steele, M*A*S*H, Bewitched and I Dream of Jeanie.
I don't get into the "reality" shows, that we all know aren't "real", or should know, and you can only watch so many talk shows, and cop shows and hospital dramas.
But the corny sense of humor on Moonlighting gives you a chance to watch something with your kids and have a good belly laugh without changing the channel in mid scene or cringing at the F-bombs being dropped.
There's nothing like watching Bruce Willis dancing around in period costume from the Shakespeare set and singing, "True Love" to his co-star Cybill Shepherd.
Or a good show like M*A*S*H that shows just enough of the blood and guts to give you the idea that it's supposed to be bad without the horrendous amounts of the red stuff you see on most other shows today.
The humor in these older shows is so much funnier.
It's always fun to watch Hawkeye banter with the complete cast, and watching the pranks they pulled on each other to send you to bed with a grin on your face.
Today's humor, really isn't that funny.
Betty White said it best when she discribed why the show "Password" doesn't work with today's generation. She explained that it's a great game, but the younger generation couldn't seem to keep up with the game, but they have become overly dependent on computers and aren't able to think on their feet.
The shows from the 50's into the80's had a story line, required thinking, and feeling.
The shows today, are often more violent than we need, include a lot more cussing than you hear in a month, and discuss body parts more than you would in a lifetime with any acquaintance that isn't your doctor. The idea that relationships are meant to last is thrown out the window. Sex is treated casually like it's something you just do with anyone in the area, without regards to feelings.
I haven't yet seen the new Charlie's Angels, but I doubt it will be as good as the old version.
So anyone in Hollywood, that has a connection to these old writers, grab 'em and put them back to work, I'm running out of reruns!
