Some of us actually work for a living, others use the internet to scam and make a few bucks off of naive and trusting folks.

This morning my phone rang.  It was my mom.

She asked for one of my sons phone numbers, and I gave it to her, thinking she must need something hauled.

She then asked me if he had an accident last night.

I replied that since I had just received a happy text from his wife this morning, I doubted it.

Someone had called her to ask for $1,800 dollars posing as my son who had had a car accident and needed that to pay for some damages or they would have charges filed against them.

He couldn't go to his parents because he wanted to keep it a secret!

Fortunately for my mom, she asked a few simple questions.

1) Why do you not sound like my grandson?

The answer: I broke my nose in the accident

2) Tell me someone else I know.

The answer: Now you're embarrassing me!

Grandma's and Grandpa's out there, PLEASE...love your families and especially those grandkids...but if you get a call asking for money....DON'T send it!

Ask questions that ONLY you and your grandchildren would know the answer to.

Ask them:

Where were you born?

Where was your first home?

Where were your parents married, and ask for specifics...not just a town...

Personal family information...

Please be careful out there.

If their number pops up on the caller ID get the number, and call the police...they may or may not be able to do anything, but there will at least be a record of this happening should they get nabbed.

Those of you in the "sandwich generation" warn your parents.
