Just my "Opinion" here...but I can think of a couple obvious reasons...Wind and Water.
When there is important news in Vinton, we keep you in touch with the neighbors and the officials in town.
The first time we realized how important Vinton Today was, in cases of emergencies, were during that nasty windstorm that knocked power out all over town and did damage all throughout the county.
We really thought that no one would be reading the website, and boy, were we ever wrong! We set our record for the number of hits to the site in a day, week, month...all with no power in Vinton!
This weekend was another example of the importance of Vinton Today.
The last you heard yesterday was a boil order for the water in Vinton.
We got a call this morning (Saturday) at 11 a.m. and had the story on in 5 minutes about the safety of the drinking water.
With Vinton Today, you don't have to wait until Monday to get your news, (or Tuesday or Friday :) we update the site almost 24/7...and ESPECIALLY when something like this happens, we are on call, as soon as we know, YOU will know! Sometimes we don't have all the details quite yet, and especially on the weekends, but in this case, the bottom line was the safety of the water...that's the message we got out today. If there are more needed details for you to know about, we'll got those out when the public offices are open on Monday.
In this case, your dedicated city coordinator, Andy Lent, took time out to call us, so we could get word out to everyone. Kudos to the great job!
Now, if you DON'T follow us on Facebook, be sure to find us and "like" us to get updates, ESPECIALLY on the weekends!
If you want to subscribe to get our daily e-mail just click HERE, fill out your address, THEN DON'T FORGET...check your e-mail for the confirmation e-mail to activate!
All of this, just for YOU, from all of the advertisers and us!
Here's hoping you don't NEED us on a weekend again for a long time!
So pour yourself a tall glass of ice water, straight from the faucet, and sit back and enjoy the website, created with all of you in mind!
