Dear Children and Dear Friends,

No words can express the deep gratitude I feel toward each and every one of you. Your outpouring of love and support for my brother John has filled my heart with such joy and love I can barely write these words.

My brother became the richest of men because of you. He loved his community and was very proud of living and working in Vinton.

Time spent with my brother during his final days are a sweet remembrance for me. We shared old memories, smiles, and tears. We spent an afternoon reading thorough the many cards and well wishes. There were stacks and stacks of handwritten and hand drawn cards from elementary school children.

The words and sentiments expressed were straight from the heart. Cards wishing John to “get well soon”, “we miss you”, “you make me happy”, gladdened our hearts.

As I have shared the story of John and Vinton, its people and community, with my family and friends across the country they are simply in awe of such love. You have inspired many far beyond the heartland.

John may be gone from my presence but is forever in my heart. Thank you for caring for and loving my brother. You are a wonderful community.

While I’m not able to gather with you on Saturday, I will be wearing my black T-Shirt, too.

Love,

Mary (Scriven) Aamold
