These past few weeks I have definitely been feeling some Viking Pride with Vinton qualifying for State basketball and Grand View wrestling winning the NAIA Wrestling National Champion title.

I think I can speak for almost all of Vinton by saying how awesome it is that our boys basketball team is going to state. I’m not a huge basketball fan, but as an alumni (which is still weird saying) I do have that Viking Pride.

I will probably be attending the state game at the Wells Fargo Arena since it is only 10-15 minutes away from me here in Des Moines. I am kind of excited to watch because my senior year the boys were so close to making it to state and it was a lot of fun watching them play at The Dome, so I can only imagine how it will be at Wells Fargo.

High school basketball isn’t the only Vikings near and dear to my heart making history. The Grand View University Viking wrestling team were dubbed NAIA Wrestling National Champions over this last weekend, which was exciting for everyone on campus.

I have definitely gained more school pride now that I am in college, especially since I have friends that are all involved in different sports. Congrats to both of my Vikings and good-luck to the boys basketball team! You have made our small town proud!
