The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking baseball team ended its regular season with a Parents' Night sweep of Union, 8-4 and 9-6.
In the opener, a four-run fourth inning doubled the Vikings run tally, and pitcher Luke Moen held the Knights to three earned runs over six innings. Chase Overton came on in the seventh and completed the game.
Senior Josh Ferguson led the offense with four hits and three RBI in the opener.
In the second game, the Vikings took a 9-1 lead into the top of the seventh. Union scored five runs in that frame. Senior Tayler Dinderman recorded 20 outs. With the lead cut to three and the tying run at the plate, coach Jim Struve sent in freshman Tyler Rippel, who struck out the only batter he faced to end the game.
Dinderman was among the leaders of the Viking offense in that game, with two hits and 3 RBI. Senior Daniel Ervin also had two hits and three RBI; he also scored two runs. Ferguson added three hits and scored three times.

In between games, Viking players and their parents were introduced, and the athletes presented flower to their moms. Struve also thanked his coaches, his family, the concession stand volunteers and others who have helped throughout the season. The Vikings presented the coach with a sign to be set up in his designated parking space. The sign jokingly warns violators that they will be cut from the team.
